Talk about UI Design Thomas Pamminger

TU Wien

2007January 28

Last wednesday Prof. Dr. Peter Purgathofer invited me as a guest lecturer for his User Interface Design course at the Design and Assessment of Technologies Institute (Vienna University of Technology). TU Wien After providing an insight into wollzelle, business, our way of working together and how to find “the right client” ... TU Wien ... I took the students behind the scenes of the development of fluxiom and talked about the design and development process and the lessons we’ve learned. TU Wien Thanks to Peter for the invitation, I hope everybody enjoyed it – I did!

It’s really great to see a university taking an interest in interactive web design. I am currently studying graphic design and computer science at a university in the US and they act like the web is just a place to throw up a couple static documents. They don’t seem to have a clue about the new technologies that are making the web such an interactive experience. I would give anything to be able to study with somebody who is on the forefront of the development of the industry like you guys are. I guess I’ll just have to stick to reading about it in my spare time and doing what I can to learn on my own.

Come to Australian Thomas ;) I’d love to be able to sit into one of your lectures. Unfortunately at uni interface design and most things web related were not really taken seriously. It was all pretty much self taught.

No chance of getting a pdf of the lecture posted?

@John: Thanks for the kudos. I hope you’ll find some likeminded students to do some projects, case studies or experimental stuff ‘cause direct experience is also a good teacher. All the best.

@eamonn: Thanks, yes Australia would be great!

I plan to start a series at typestorming in the future where we will post parts of the keynotes. So please stay tuned…
